The joke is that this computers have absolutely different harware. And no solution yet :( But I have some things to say and maybe it will help to someone. Of course I didn't let Win XP search for a better drive to me, I select it from a list.

I had this same problem here and solved it after I changed my graphics card driver for a similar one. And we solve it with Mikes solution (delete winio.sys). We had same problem with WinXP for 3 computers (P4 machines,SIS chipset, different video). Remove winio.sys, it realy works for this problem TNX, your a genius and my best friend, I'd check out everywhere about your answer, anybody saids the same about kill winio.sys, but IT REALY WORKS!!!. And the new one doesn't need it or conflicts whit it. It seems to me that the old bios doesn't support HT and htpatch has to be needed. If there is HTpatch (%Systemroot%\htpatch.exe) - delete it! So look at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run This file used by htpatch.exe which came from SIS AGP driver (v1.13 in my case). After upgrading bios to v.1006 I've seen the same problem.ĭeleting winio.sys solved it. On my ASUS P4S533-MX mb with bios v.1004 there wasn't any problem. Any way, winio.sys was hiding in a little utility from Aopen called SilentTek, which allows you to monitor the motherboard temperature and fan speed.
